Last week I proudly announced that I’ve been tapped to write the fourth book in Robert Ludlum’s Paul Janson series. The book, tentatively titled THE JANSON EQUATION, will be my sixth novel overall and likely my most challenging and ambitious to date.
Robert Ludlum, who passed away in 2001, was the author of 27 novels, including the world-famous trilogy featuring former covert government operator Jason Bourne. The Bourne novels, of course, inspired four magnificent feature films: The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, and The Bourne Legacy. Matt Damon became an unlikely action hero, and the films introduced a new generation to the works of master spy novelist Robert Ludlum.
Before Robert Ludlum’s death, he engaged in long conversations with his friend and literary agent, Henry Morrison. Robert Ludlum wanted his characters to survive him, and he wanted his readers to enjoy their adventures for many years to come.
Three of Robert Ludlum’s series have continued since the author’s death. The Jason Bourne series is currently written by Eric Van Lustbader, while recent installments of the Covert One series have been written by talented authors such as Jamie Freveletti and Kyle Mills.
The Paul Janson series, which began with Ludlum’s posthumous thriller THE JANSON DIRECTIVE, is the latest series to be launched. Robert Ludlum’s original novel was followed by Paul Garrison’s THE JANSON COMMAND and his forthcoming THE JANSON OPTION.
The novel I’m currently working on, THE JANSON EQUATION, will be set largely in South Korea, North Korea, and China. Within the next few weeks I plan to take a research trip to cities such as Seoul and Shanghai, and I’ll be posting pictures and journal entries for those readers who’d like to come along for the ride.
